Weekend

This is my second week of missing Saturday Shopping List...oops. It's just been so hectic around here with the weather finally getting nice that I just didn't get a chance to peruse Etsy like I usually do.
On a little housekeeping note. I've been trying out a new commenting system. Kirsty is using it over at Kootoyoo and I really liked it so I'm trying it here. Please let me know if there's any bugs, kinks, etc. You can leave a comment as a guest or sign up. You can either leave your email to get replies or leave it blank, up to you. Any thoughts you have would be great. Thanks!
Some relaxing plans for this three day weekend, hopefully some sewing, reading and just general family fun. Have a great weekend and see you on Tuesday!
And remember the Sew, Mama Sew giveaway is coming up on Wednesday which I'll be participating in with a little hand made and vintage goodness!

Reflection

There are a few times in life where it seems as if time stands still and your priorities come into full focus. I had that moment last night when my husband got home from work. He was late, which I had noticed as I cajoled kids into cleaning their room, and when he walked into the house I almost mentioned the time. I'm glad I didn't. My husband teaches out in a rural area and driving home he came upon the car wreck of a fellow teacher. It was a head on collision with another vehicle, a drunk driver. Thankfully she and the other passengers survived, injured yes, but not severely. The point being, priorities shift when the minutia of the day falls away and the light shines like a beacon on those that take precedence over all. So in reflection, I hug my kids, kiss my husband, embrace the little and forget the big because at the end of the day it's just us, our family, at this time, in this moment.

My Creative Space

Not much in my creative space this week due to my sewing room being pulled apart to get to the leaky sprinkler pipes. All is fixed and hopefully I'll be back in there shortly. I have found a few moments for some creativity.

Learning how to lace knit, still working at it, going on my third attempt.

Discovering vintage crochet books from my grandmother. I may learn yet.

Please go check out other fabulous spaces at kootoyoo.

Celebration...

Just a note to hop on down to the giveaway if you already haven't. I'll announce the winner on Sunday!
I didn't get to a shopping list this week. It's been a crazy week full of celebrations. The oldest "graduated" from preschool, a Lost party and an anniversary. My husband and I are celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary and we're sending the kids off to the grandparents this weekend for a little alone time. We're not actually going anywhere but he has plans for some gardening and me some sewing and a nice dinner where we don't have to eat in five minutes while cajoling kids to eat, sit still, or behave. I can't wait!I just got my new sewing labels from namemaker and I like them quite a bit. I went with a different style this time and they're iron on. I'm hoping I don't have any problems with them being iron ons.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

My Creative Space

Just a note to remember to hop down to my giveaway!

This week has been more about milestones and reflections than crafting. My oldest daughter is onto kindergarten in the fall and it's made me realize how short this time is I have with them.I picked up these great little prose booklets from the early 1900's filled with great little quotes and sayings. Perfect for moments of quiet reflection. Plus I am in love with the craftsmen style covers.I have had a pattern in the works this week, mostly in my head, but I've started writing it down, playing with fabric and getting the kinks worked out. Hopefully I'll have more to show soon. Thanks for all who gave support on the undies, I'm hoping to have a completed pair to show next week!
Please go over and see more great creative spaces at Kootoyoo.

Random

Remember to comment on my giveaway for a chance to win. :)

I'm feeling a bit random today. I think it's because yesterday was so packed full with preschool festivities. Today my plan is to try to get organized here on the home front. Wish me luck.I made this grocery tote around earth day and never got around to posting about it. I used some fabric from Alexander Henry for appliqueing onto an old vintage tablecloth that I had made into a tote. I love using old tablecloths because I just used the edge as the top so no hemming was required! I love when things are easy.
On another note. Pigtails and Snails is having a great quilt giveaway for a cute pink quilt. Perfect for any little girl.
Happy Tuesday!

Preschool Graduation

Please remember to go down and comment on my giveaway. I extended it till Saturday! Go check it out!The oldest has her preschool program tonight as she graduates onto kindergarten this fall. It's hard to believe she'll be going to the big school and makes me a little sad and nostalgic. And for some reason a little neurotic because late last night I decided that my girls teachers needed a book bag to go with their gift card. Once I had this thought stuck in my head than it had to be completed, which meant getting up early to finish them in the few short hours before school. They turned out cute and completely unnecessary but it's now out of my mind.I also made some cupcakes for my youngest daughters class since her birthday is in the summer. Really I think it was just an excuse to have pink cupcakes in the house. :)

I've been working on a few patterns around here and seeing a lot of new patterns on the web lately so patterns have been on the mind. Here's just a few of the patterns that have caught my eye this week.
1. Granny Mitts by SylvChezPlum With all the granny a day making I've been seeing on blogs I thought this would be a great way to showcase everyone's new skills. :)
2.Quickie Clutch by hyperart Sometimes I just want to throw something cute together and what's cuter than this sweet clutch?
3. Plush Pear Trio by retromama She just started selling this pattern and I love it!!
4. Oliver Owl by mytinystar The fabric she used to showcase this pattern is just great. What little kid doesn't need a cut owl stuffie?
5. Little Cap by leilaandben I just think this cap is amazing. What's great is it comes in small and larger toddler sizes. My son may just need one of these.
6. Miss Madeline Dress by littledresses This is a great dress pattern for any little girl. So cute!!

Tea Party

The bamboo is a must have at any tea party
When a crazy mom forces her children to help her organize boxes, storage rooms, and anything else she can get her hands on there's only one thing left to do...throw a tea party. We made yummy cookies, prepared food, decorated the table and sat down for some child-led conversation. Today the library and a museum at a fort.
Some days are work...some are play...play days are the best!

My Creative Space

My sister-in-law came to visit this past weekend so my sewing room has been a bit neglected. I was able to start on a few things this week though.
I ripped apart a pair of my son's undies to base my pattern off of. Thank you all for the suggestions! I think this will work much better.
New fabric for a new crochet organizer.
A pattern looking to be started for my daughters. Because every little girls needs her own bathrobe. :)Some pattern weights for my shop.
Please go on over to Kootoyoo to see more creative spaces.

Spice Jars

I picked up some glass spice jars while out this weekend. They are perfect for organizing my gazillion buttons. So I spent an evening organizing and sorting, which made me wonder how this one activity can be so satisfying. It seems a little lame really but it made me happy for an hour. That led to the storage room being purged and re-organized. I think I'm on a kick. Now if I can just keep it going!

Europe

Michelle, my sister-in-law just got back from a trip to Europe. Her and her husband went exploring London and Scotland and then onto their old haunt of the Bruno in the Czech Republic. While there she was nice enough to pick up some really amazing vintage buttons and ribbons in London. I love them and I'm sure it will take me a very long time to actually use them. So for now they're sitting prettily in my sewing room making me happy.I picked up this fabric at the thrift store on Friday and I love it. Unfortunately I'd love to know more about it and can't seem to find anything. It's canvas weight, vintage, I'm thinking maybe from the 60's or 70's. Of course I've been known to be completely wrong so if you know anything about I'd love to know. It thinks it's destined for some bags very soon.

Spring

I think spring may finally have arrived. I'm hoping so anyway.I did a little vintage shop update today.

Shorts

I've been trying to will spring to come out and play by making shorts for my son. Unfortunately, it chose to snow instead. I copied a pair of other shorts he had for the pattern and after making them too big, cutting them down, having them be too small and starting all over I finally got them right. I think they're pretty cute even if they're a bit long, but at least they're not falling off his waist. I think I finally have the pattern down right so maybe the more shorts I make the nicer the weather will be. I can dream right?
